Phillip Staehle hails from rural Northern California where he
gained wine appreciation at an early age. After graduating
from
UC Davis, Phillip found his calling when he joined Carmenet
Vineyards, producers of small batch, world class wines. From
this experience, in 2003, he leaped at the opportunity
to crush
his first vintage of Petite Sirah, and Enkidu
was born.
Enkidu Wine was created by Phillip’s vision and dedication,
focusing
on wines that are extracted with finesse, balance and
complexity. He believes that his work should be an extension
of himself and making wine is the perfect stage for this
expression.
The name “Enkidu” (en-kuh-doo) comes from one
of the oldest stories ever recorded: The Epic of Gilgamesh.
Phillip lives in Santa Rosa, California with his wife, Melissa,
and his Labrador “beast” – Anu. His free time is spent cycling,
practicing yoga, or backpacking in the mountains.
