Wellness Activities

As the first river cruise line to offer a complimentary fleet of bikes—and helmets—to help cover more ground while exploring cities ashore, AmaWaterways recognizes that many guests want the option of participating in active leisure activities during their cruise. In many destinations throughout Europe, guests can join guided hikes and biking excursions through grand cities and vineyards, along scenic riverfronts and up to hilltop castles and fortresses.

Professionally trained Wellness Hosts* lead a variety of fitness classes, including core strengthening and circuit training, as well as occasional health and wellness-related lectures and discussions as part of AmaWaterways’ fleetwide wellness activities.

*Wellness Hosts available on all ships except AmaVida, AmaDouro and Zambezi Queen in 2019.


Wellness Amenities

In addition to our wellness activities, our ships are equipped with a fleet of bicycles, a fitness room, whirlpool or swimming pool and a walking track. And, since cuisine is such a major part of the river cruising experience, AmaWaterways incorporates healthy eating, using locally-sourced ingredients into our culinary offerings.

I was born in Porto in the North of Portugal and raised by two very big sports enthusiasts. My parents inspired a deep passion for sports and exercise in my life from a young age, and also taught me the importance of combining physical activity with a well-balanced lifestyle. My background in sports science has lead me on a path that focuses on connecting travel and exploration, nature and positive energy in order to achieve a complete sense of well-being. I aim to promote a healthy mindset and to have an encouraging and positive effect on the people around me. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with our guests during their cruise.
Having grown up in England and playing football from a young age, health and fitness has always been a big part of my life. I graduated in Melbourne, Australia, as a personal trainer and worked in a number of high-end gyms in addition to running my own studio for a number of years. However, the call for traveling and working in the profession I loved grew bigger and bigger, so I decided to move onto the ships. I love to create an active environment for my participants and individualize my classes in order to meet everyone’s needs and goals. I look forward to meeting you and creating an active cruise experience on board.
Originally from Portugal, my passion for athletics started very early on as I always participated in a great variety of sports growing up. But I wanted to take my passion even further and really help people who are interested in changing their lifestyle. My philosophy focuses on continual, lifelong learning as I work towards inspiring and empowering people with the knowledge, skills and resources to build a healthier life. So, my goal during these Wellness Cruises is to motivate guests who want to participate in activities such a circuit training, functional training, core strengthening and conditioning. Together we will transform your quality of life!
My name is Tiago Silva Monteiro, and I am from Porto, Portugal. I have a Master’s Degree in Sports Education and have always had a great passion for wellness and fitness from a very early age. My main focus is to pass on my knowledge and skills to others and also to show people that with a healthy mindset, great change is possible! I see the whole body as an interlinked system of muscles that I like to challenge and improve through things like yoga, Pilates and positive thinking.
Since I can remember, I have always wanted to explore the world and its different cultures, and help people to live a healthier and more fulfilled life. My international experiences as a model, waiter, student, salesman, trainer and health coach—living, working and studying in various locations such as Milan, Shanghai, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Budapest— have given me the opportunity to develop certain communication skills which I believe are essential for a multifaceted fitness professional. Sports have always been and always will be a fundamental part of my life. Depending on the season, I practice kayaking, rowing, skiing, wall climbing, tennis, football and hiking. I look forward to sharing my expertise with our guests!
