AmaWaterways Commemorates 70th D-Day Anniversary

I’m happy to announce that AmaWaterways will honor the 70th anniversary of the Normandy D-Day landings next year with an enhanced 2014 Paris & Normandy itinerary! Our 7-night cruise aboard the AmaLegro offers an in-depth perspective on WWII history with a choice of two guided “D-Day Remembered” excursions (either the U.S. sector or the British & Canadian sectors).

We designed this Seine River itinerary to give guests a memorable take on the world-changing events of June 6, 1944 as they travel through one of Europe's loveliest regions. AmaWaterways is very fortunate to have some of the best local guides in the business working for us, knowledgeable people with a genuine passion for world history and a real knack for bringing the past to life.

Some of our guests have fathers or grandfathers who fought on these historic beaches, and for them this tour of Normandy is a profoundly emotional experience. But even if you don’t know much about WWII history, you’ll find this cruise fascinating and deeply touching. To gaze out at the ghostly remnants of the artificial harbor at Arromanches, or to stroll through a sea of white crosses at the American cemetery… well, it’s simply unforgettable. I believe such moments give visitors here a personal connection with the events of the past.

Our guests can experience this anniversary year itinerary on all Paris & Normandy departures between April 10 - November 27, 2014. Cruises start at $2,599 (with a discount of $200 per person for military personnel). Click here for more details.

Beyond the D-Day beaches, Normandy remains a rather undiscovered corner of France. In fact, there are so many delightful things to see and do here that I will devote my next blog to some of its highlights. Watch for it!
