It takes years to bring a new ship to life.

This spring I visited the AmaReina during her inaugural cruise. She’s the newest member of our fleet in Europe, and really quite special. The name “reina” means queen. So it was only fitting that she be christened by royalty. Princess Heide von Hohenzollern performed the honors for us in the lovely German town of Vilshofen.

As I walked through the AmaReina, the pride on my face must have been obvious. It's one thing to see a ship under construction. But it takes excited passengers and a devoted crew to give the ship its true spirit.

It made me so happy to see AmaReina’s first passengers looking right at home in our beautiful lounges; crew members working together in a gleaming dining room or on Sun Deck, where a heated pool stood ready for the first spring sunshine.

Our wonderful hotel director Dietmar showed me the new Apple computer monitors in AmaReina’s staterooms. They make it super easy for passengers to post updates on social media during their AmaReina cruise (using our free Internet of course).

It’s just another example of the innovations we build into each new ship we introduce.
Those innovations have earned countless awards, for which we’re grateful. (AmaReina’s sister ship AmaPrima was Cruise Critic’s Best New River Cruise Ship of 2013.)

But there's no reward like seeing a ship begin the first chapter of its story.

Our beautiful AmaReina will sail Enchanting Rhine and Christmas on the Rhine cruises this fall and winter. We hope you’ll join us during her inaugural year or sometime very soon!
